julia wrote a really accurate description of my life while i nerded out over the stochastic mechanism of gene transcription:
love for science trumps love for writing. writing cries. science meanwhile: the hot blonde in the corner who begs you to understand them. you can try but you never can, not completely. writing sits in a corner: you can use me however you want. when science doesn’t call, you and writing, you have great times. writing is always at your disposal. not only do you manipulate writing, but you use writing to manipulate other people. writing becomes meek; it tries to make you love it, but alas. writing sits and listens to that song, mournfully. it waits for science to sleep knowing that perhaps, just maybe, you will go to it. but alas, science truly holds your heart, your true happiness.
but will science love you? that’s the question. that’s what keeps you guessing. science knows about writing but science doesn’t care. science is amazing and complex and while writing is old, science is as old as the UNIVERSE. writing just can’t measure up. science is also beautiful. writing can be beautiful, but there’s no accounting for taste
sometimes, sometimes, late at night writing and science combine. sometimes science creeps into writing, your love for it too intense. writing is envious but accepts it because now the beauty of science can slot into writing and writing realizes that it makes you love writing more. and science, science uses writing, just like you use hir. science uses writing to express hirself. writing bends to the both of you. because of hir love for you.
and that, my friend, is the most tragic tale
in all the cosmos
